We chatted to Lee about his role and responsibilities. In our previous article, we spoke with Keith Phillips, our Service Delivery Manager, which can be found here.
Hey Lee, what are your responsibilities at Microtrading?
In short, I’m in charge of fulfilling projects – but, in order to do that, my job consists of many different types of work. The projects I’m involved with can include hardware upgrades, networking, firewalls and general IT security, or changes to a server – be that a physical server or one based in the cloud in Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.
Preparation is very important for us. I create the project plans that set out the best way to achieve the desired outcome for each individual customer. Project plans need to be bespoke, particularly when it comes to specification, scheduling and budgeting.
I understand the importance of minimising disruption and downtime to a client when delivering a project so, for me, a well-constructed plan means that we can deliver a project with a ’light touch’ from the customer.
What drives you in your role?
I’m sure most, if not all, of us at Microtrading will probably say this – the customer. I’m geared towards meeting the needs of the customer because good project delivery is built around them. For example, when drawing up the schedule of works, I liaise with the customer to establish how they work and what their timetable is.
Our approach to sales is orientated towards addressing the requirements of the customer – as their trusted advisor. I advise our customers on upgrades to their infrastructure, purely based on any weaknesses I see or in response to a need they have expressed.
Customers can contact me about any aspect of a project, and I can make sure they are fully informed of what is going on at the time and the road map ahead. I’m also on-hand to assist with aftercare for all completed projects.
What experience do you bring to the role of Senior IT Projects Engineer?
My career has consisted of IT infrastructure related roles – focused on servicing the network of different businesses. Microtrading is the leading IT support provider to sporting organisations in the UK and, given that I have previously worked for UK Athletics, I have a strong understanding of the needs of that sector and our clients within it.
What do you do in your spare time?
I’m a family man and a keen mountain biker although, when I’m at home, most of my spare time is taken up looking after the kids.
