Hey Sam, what are your responsibilities at Microtrading?

I began at Microtrading as an apprentice two years ago. Now as a fully qualified IT Support Technician, I’m responsible for handling a variety of support calls and ensuring that all our client backups are running effectively every day.

‘Backup and data recovery’ is a particular speciality and passion of mine, and I encourage our clients to ask me virtually anything on this topic! I’m highly experienced in the full range of Microsoft Office products as well, so I also field a lot of those queries and issues. In addition, I have extensive knowledge of all things pertaining to workstations, including installation of new programs and applications.

What drives you in your role?

I’m a really passionate problem solver – I love fixing things and improving situations. Working at Microtrading, I get a new challenge practically every hour and it’s so enjoyable – there’s so much variety and the solutions can be inspiring. Also, having that level of responsibility for our clients’ IT means there is a significant sense of achievement for me.

In addition, the attitude of the Microtrading team around me is a great motivator. There’s a family vibe here – we work as a team and we help each other out – it’s great for morale!

What experience do you bring to the role?

Throughout both school and college, I was always very interested and highly accomplished in IT. When I completed my college education with a distinction in IT, I knew that I would probably enjoy a career in the sector.

When I moved to Birmingham, I looked for a company where I could drive my skills forward and I joined Microtrading’s apprenticeship scheme.

I gained an in-depth level of knowledge and experience throughout the apprenticeship with Microtrading, giving me a comprehensive ability to help our clients.

What do you do in your spare time?

I’m an avid football fan. I play for a 5-a-side team in Birmingham, which is lots of fun, and I have a season ticket for Crystal Palace, so I make trips to see those games. I also love to travel and explore new places around the UK.
