Cyber Essentials is a government backed scheme that helps businesses protect themselves from cybercrime. It does this by showing you what needs to be in place, within your IT infrastructure, in order to address basic weaknesses and prevent the most common types of attacks.
We can perform an assessment of your current IT infrastructure and security systems, which will measure your compliance with the Cyber Essentials certification, and we can also see you through the application process and increase the likelihood of you becoming certified.
Why should I have Cyber Essentials certification?
As a Cyber Essentials certified company, you’ll have a clear picture of your organisation’s cyber security level and gain peace of mind knowing that your business is better protected in a time when cybercrime is growing ever more sophisticated.
Cyber Essentials also helps you ensure that you are prepared for compliance with a number of elements within the legislation outlined by the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), which comes into effect in the UK on 25th May 2018.
Since October 2014, Cyber Essentials has been a requirement for any company wishing to bid for certain government contracts. This is likely to be rolled out across additional factions of the government, and has also set a trend for other businesses.
More and more companies are now looking for potential suppliers to be Cyber Essentials accredited before considering them for tenders. Being accredited can be vital in allowing you to attract and win new business with the promise that you have good cyber security measures in place.
Cyber Essentials certification gives reassurance to your existing customers that you have taken the necessary measures to protect the data you hold and have secured your IT system from cyber threats.
How can Microtrading help me?
We highly recommend becoming Cyber Essentials certified. It’s important to note that the Cyber Essentials accreditation is an independently verified self-assessment. As such, instructing an IT support and services provider to help you through the process, and advise on any adjustments you need to make, is the quickest, easiest and most effective route to a successful application.
We are helping many organisations to become Cyber Essentials accredited so that they can demonstrate, both internally and externally, that they take cyber security seriously and have taken measures to protect the data they hold.
Our extensive experience in online security and system compliance makes us the ideal IT support company to advise and support your business on its handling of sensitive data and the suitability of your IT processes and infrastructure.
How do I apply?
The Cyber Essentials certification scheme is available at two levels; Cyber Essentials Basic and Cyber Essentials Plus.
Cyber Essentials Basic
The Basic accreditation provides a robust assurance framework centred around a set of minimum requirements for a secure IT system.
We will assess your business against the five Cyber Essentials security controls, which require you to:
- Secure your internet connection
- Secure your devices and software
- Control access to your data and services
- Protect your systems from viruses and other malware
- Keep your devices and software up to date
Following this assessment, we can advise on and steps you need to take in order to meet criteria that your infrastructure falls short on. Importantly, we can help you implement the necessary changes, should you require our services in order to do so. Following this we can produce the completed application which will be submitted following your approval.
Cyber Essentials Plus
Cyber Essentials Plus requires you to already be in possession of the Basic accreditation and involves both internal and external assessments to verify your security.
The benefit of having this extra accreditation is the additional security and credibility it brings you. Going this step further is highly advisable, particularly for companies who hold personal and sensitive data, and want to demonstrate a higher level of security to their clients.
Cyber Essentials certification is valid for one year and re-application is required annually to maintain accreditation. For organisations with up to 20 users a Cyber Essentials assessment starts from just £380.00 excluding VAT. For organisations with over 20 users the assessments starts from £665.00 excluding VAT.
