Every Christmas, Microtrading makes a donation to the young homeless charity, St Basils, instead of buying and posting out Christmas cards to its clients and suppliers. This has long been a tradition for Microtrading, having begun soon after the company was established.
Andrew Penlington, Managing Director of Microtrading, said: “We’re happy to, once again, be making a donation to St Basils on behalf of our clients.
“As a business, we’ve been donating to St Basils each Christmas for the past 30 years or so. We’ve always believed that the ‘Christmas card budget’, so to speak, was better spent on a worthy cause in the season of giving.
“When we were choosing a charity, St Basils was an obvious choice to us, it’s local and its work is focused on one of the most vulnerable sections of society. We want them to know that we are thinking of them, particularly at this time of year, and are doing our little bit to help them find somewhere to stay.”
St Basils works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the West Midlands region. Helping over 5,000 young people per year, the charity aims to help them experience a bright and fulfilling future – never again at risk of homelessness.
With 34 supported accommodation schemes, St Basils houses more than 1,500 young people every year, some of whom have young children.
The charity also provides a range of prevention, accommodation, engagement and support services, which in turn help young people to gain skills, confidence and employment, and move on successfully. These services are crucial to solving youth homelessness as they can break the ‘no home – no job – no home’ cycle.
